Ada 2 cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengetahui informasi spesifikasi komputer/laptop, diantaranya melalui BIOS atau Sistem Operasi, karena BIOS memberikan informasi yang bersifat debug maka akan sulit untuk menterjemahkan ke bahasa rasional dan terkadang tidak lengkap, jadi kita dapat memilih cara yang kedua yaitu melalui Sistem Operasi, antara lain:

Microsoft Windows:
Untuk sistem operasi Windows dapat dilihat melalui System Properties, dengan cara klik kanan pada My Computer kemudian pilih Properties akan muncul jendela informasi mengenai system secara singkat, (dapat juga menggunakan kombinasi tombol keyboard Window+Pause/Break).

Atau dengan menggunakan applikasi bawaan DirectX, dengan cara klik tombol Start kemudian klik Run kemudian ketik perintah dxdiag maka akan muncul jendela informasi dari DirectX yang lebih detail tentang jenis/kapasitas dari processor, memory, vga, sound, dll.

Atau juga menggunakan aplikasi pihak ketiga seperti CPU-Z, TuneUP Utilities, Everest, dll.

Untuk Harddisk dapat dilihat melalui Computer Management, dengan cara klik tombol Start kemudian pilih Control Panel kemudian pilih Administrative Tools kemudian pilih Computer Management lalu pilih Disk Management maka dapat dilihat kapasitas, partisi dan jenis file system dari Harddisk.

note: kemungkinan lokasi atau penamaan akan sedikit berbeda pada versi Windows Vista/7 namun sebenarnya pengertiannya tetap sama.

Linux:
Untuk sistem operasi Linux dapat menggunakan beberapa perintah dibawah ini:

eksekusi perintah dapat dilakukan di terminal/konsol, dan harus sebagai root (jika menggunakan Ubuntu dapat ditambahkan perintah sudo mis: $ sudo lshw)
